For my project, I created a soundscape for a scene where someone is walking through their neighborhood as it starts to rain. As the rain gets heavier, the person starts to run towards their home.
Project outline:
I approached the development of this project by first finding sounds on an online database, making the foley, then editing everything together. I used the website 'Freesound' to find all of the sound that I wouldn't be making using foley, such as the sounds of rain, footsteps, and background noises such as birds whistling. Afterwards, I created all of the remaining sounds using foley. I used the sound of crumpled paper for bushes rustling, shaking coins in a glass jar for the sound of keys, a lock on a door for a clock ticking, and aluminum foil and a garbage bag opening for thunder. Originally, the sound of thunder was only going to be made using aluminum foil, but once I recorded the foley, it didn't sound much like thunder. Because of this, I tried to improvise and use a garbage bag to add make it sound more like thunder, even though it ended up sounding more like wind instead.
After I had all of my sounds, I began editing them together in Adobe Premier Pro. I started by adding all the secondary sounds first so that I could adjust the volume of them all at once to make them quieter. Afterwards, I added in the louder, primary sounds. I tried to layer some sounds in order to make the soundscape sound more fluid and not have sounds that start and stop abruptly. For example, in the beginning of the soundscape, I added the same rain sound as both primary and secondary sound so the transition from no rain to heavy rain would be seamless.
